The video in the following link is the one I have chosen for this month’s Alzheimer/Dementia Caregivers Support Group. The video shows our bodies amazing ability to cope with Alzheimer’s / Dementia via our wonderful Cognitive Reserve. One of the major points discussed in the video is how the number friends an individual affected by the disease has, affects the progression of the symptoms of the disease. Another point the video brings out is despite physical atrophy (shrinking of the brain), whether it be from natural aging or more drastic such as in the cases of Alzheimer’s / Dementia, the brain has the ability to cope with the disease. It’s a wonderful short video; a little more than 20 minutes long. I encourage everyone to watch it and see if we can learn anything that might impact the way we care for those affected by the disease.
